We regularly hold open mornings throughout the year for families interested in joining Poolsbrook. During these events, you can meet Mr Stewart, our headteacher, tour the school and grounds, and ask any questions you may have.

Applying for a school place

Admissions to the school are processed by the Local Authority as part of the Derbyshire Coordinated Admissions Scheme. The Published Admissions Number (PAN) for the school is 15 pupils across Reception and Year groups 1 to 6.

For admissions in September 2027:

• The application round opens on 9th November 2026 and closes on 15th January 2027
• The offer date for the September 2027 intake is 16th April 2027 (National Offer Day)

In-Year Admissions

• If you would like to make an in-year admission to move or change schools, please contact the Local Authority at any point in the year on the link above.

Apply for a primary or infant school place in 2027

• If your child was born between 1 September 2022 - 31 August 2023 your child will be eligible to start school in September 2027.

You should apply for their infant or primary school place by 15th January 2027.

Appeals 

If your child has been refused a place and you would like to appeal against the decision, please see below further information on making an appeal.

In-year admissions only

• If your appeal relates to an in-year admission, you should submit your appeal within 20 days of being told that your application was unsuccessful. 

2026-27 application round

• If your appeal is for a child transferring to a junior school or starting an infant or primary school in September 2026  and you are told of the decision on 16th April 2026 (National Offer Day) you should submit your appeal by 17th May 2026. 
• If you are told of an infant, junior or primary decision after 16th April 2025 or it relates to an in-year admission, you should submit your appeal within 20 days of being told that your application was unsuccessful.

• If you'd prefer a paper form and hard copy of these notes, please email the admissions and transport team: admissions.transport@derbyshire.gov.uk who will arrange for an appeal form and notes to be sent to you.
• You should make your appeal within 20 school days of receiving notification that the application was unsuccessful.
• Forms for decisions notified on 16 April 2026 must be returned by 17 May 2026 and forms for decisions notified after that date within 20 school days of receiving notification that the application was unsuccessful.
